Shop Supervisor/Assistant – Vacancy.

Location: Friends of St Mary’s Shop situated in St Mary’s Hospital, Newport, Isle of Wight. Shop is open Monday to Friday 0800hrs to 1600hrs. Reports to: The Retail Manager. Purpose: To carry out shop duties as required including supervising the running of the shop on Manager’s day off and/or Holiday/Sickness leave.

Hours of work required are 1 day per week – 9.25 hours per week, 0645hrs (due to deliveries) to 1600hrs on a Monday. To be available to cover extra hours as and when needed, including short notice cover. This is a fixed term contract for 12 months, which may be extended depending on business need. Rate of pay to be £11.00 per hour. Start date by agreement.

Shop Assistant with Supervisor Responsibilities

Job description

We are looking for a Shop Assistant with Supervisor Responsibilities to assist the Retail Manager in maximising sales, assist in the day to day running and to supervise the shop in the absence of the Retail Manager.

Key Skills & Competencies

In order to be successful in this role, you must have experience in retail and customer services.

- You must have a track record of strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise a team of volunteers.

- Retail management, a basic understanding of the retail environment including stock generation, administration and maintaining a high standard of presentation. Your experience should also include cash handling and computer skills.

- Team Leadership; creating an organised and pleasant working environment for all the team.

- Customer Service; ensure that the high standard of customer service expected by The Friends is maintained at all times.

Some Key tasks and responsibilities that will be required but not limited to:

To be available to cover all hours and duties of retail manager in their absence. As required and agreed, which also may include at short notice.

After training to have a complete understanding of all the office procedures, including ordering of stock, banking, answering the telephone, cash handling, reconcile cash taken with till receipts, ensuring all monies accounted for as directed and dealing with enquires and complaints as appropriate and any other systems of operation. To liaise with the Manager to understand the staffing of shop rota to cover all hours of operation and in the absence of the manager ensure all hours are covered upon unscheduled absences. To maintain visual merchandising, including cleanliness and ensure shop standards are maintained at all times. To be hands on in the shop.

In the absence of the manager to take responsibility to undertake manager duties and to undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required.

To be contribute to a 6 monthly review to agree with the Retail Manager and Chairman of the Directors, organisational, team and personal objectives.

To work with the Manager to ensure that all volunteers are trained in the various tasks requested of them, including excellent customer service and that they adhere to all Health and Safety procedures and be aware of all other policies and procedures. All the team are required to work in line with the Health and Safety Policy to ensure not only their own health and safety, but that of others too. All team members have a responsibility to ensure that the working environment continues to be a safe, secure, healthy and fulfilling place to work.

All the team to co-operate and attend all appropriate mandatory and statutory training as required by the organisation and /or their professional bodies.

Ensure the maintenance of confidentiality in respect of staff, volunteer and all privileged information relating to the services of the Charity, the Company, its staff, volunteers and IW NHS Trust (St Mary’s Hospital)

Promote and foster the Friends of St Mary’s Hospital reputation and standing within the community.

The role of our volunteers is integral part of the Friends, and all the team are required to underpin this in their attitude and actions.
