Friends of St Mary’s Shop

Shop Assistant/Supervisor – Vacancy.

Location: Friends of St Mary’s Shop situated in St Mary’s Hospital, Newport, Isle of Wight. Shop is open Monday to Friday 0800hrs to 1600hrs. Reports to: The Retail Manager. Purpose: To carry out shop duties as required including supervising the running of the shop on Manager’s day off and to cover Holiday/Sickness leave.  

Hours of work required – 16 hours per week.  (Mondays 0645hrs (due to deliveries) to 1600hrs, other shift hours to be agreed.)  To be available to cover additional hours as and when needed, including short notice cover.  This is a fixed term contract for 12 months, which may be extended depending on business need.  Rate of pay to be £11.00 per hour. Start date by agreement.

 

 Shop Assistant with Supervisor Responsibilities

 Job description

We are looking for a Shop Assistant with Supervisor Responsibilities to assist the Retail Manager in maximising sales, assist in the day to day running and to supervise the shop in the absence of the Retail Manager.

Key Skills & Competencies

In order to be successful in this role, it would be an advantage to have experience in retail and customer services.

- Retail experience, an understanding of the retail environment including stock generation, administration and maintaining a high standard of presentation, including cash handling and computer skills.

- Team Leadership; creating an organised and pleasant working environment for all the team.

-  Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate/interact  with the Manager, team of volunteers, customers and others.

- Customer Service; ensure that the high standard of customer service expected by The Friends is maintained at all times.

Some Key tasks and responsibilities that will be required but not limited to:

To be available to cover all hours and duties of retail manager in their absence. As required and agreed, which also may include at short notice. 

After training to have an understanding of all the office procedures, including ordering of stock, banking, answering the telephone, cash handling, rota management, reconcile cash taken with till receipts, ensuring all monies accounted for as directed and dealing with enquires and complaints as appropriate. To maintain visual merchandising, including cleanliness and ensure shop standards are maintained at all times. To be hands on in the shop, and any other systems of operation that maybe required including adhering to all Health and Safety procedures and be aware of all other policies and procedures.

To be contribute to a 6 monthly review to agree with the Retail Manager and Chairman of the Directors, organisational, team and personal objectives.

All the team to co-operate and attend all appropriate mandatory and statutory training as required by the organisation and /or their professional bodies.

Ensure the maintenance of confidentiality in respect of staff, volunteer and all privileged information relating to the services of the Charity, the Company, its staff, volunteers and IW NHS Trust (St Mary’s Hospital)

Promote and foster the Friends of St Mary’s Hospital reputation and standing within the community.

The role of our volunteers is integral part of the Friends, and all the team are required to underpin this in their attitude and actions.

 

This Job Description may change, and the duties listed are not exhaustive, but such change will only be made following consultation between the Retail Manager and the post holder.

·       Interpersonal skills to communicate/interact with the Manager, volunteers, customers and others. 

·       To be able to identify tasks and identify their importance levels then decide which to prioritise, organise, delegate or do as necessary.

·       Be willing to take responsibility.

·       To be willing to deal with unexpected issues that requires the ability of control and deal with them quickly and efficiently.

·       Willingness to attend training relevant to the role.

·       To be willing to undertake duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.

 Experience:

·       Working in retail environment.

·       Supervisory role within a team

·       Understanding the importance health and safety procedures/policies.

·       Cash handling competency

·       Computer competency
