It’s also time to say Hello to Tricia in her role as Chair of the Friends of St Mary’s Hospital.

I am writing to introduce myself as the new Chair of the Friends of St. Marys Hospital charity. Lesley Myland, after 12 years of amazing service, stood down at the recent AGM and I was voted in.

Lesley will be a very hard act to follow - she was a brilliant Chair and spokesperson for the Friends and led the organisation with integrity and compassion, carefully navigating the many challenges sent our way - including Costa and Covid!  - and ensuring the Friends continue to be an integral part of St. Mary’s Hospital.  I am delighted to say that Lesley has agreed to stay on as our President so will still be involved with the organisation.

A little bit about me - I worked and volunteered for the British Red Cross for 19 years 

during which time I was awarded an MBE in 2018 for services to Crisis Response. My final role for the Red Cross was Director for Independent living and Crisis Response Southeast which included a service run at St. Marys. We moved to the Island in 2018 when I became the Head of Emergency Planning for the Isle of Wight Trust before retiring in 2023. 

Having worked in St. Mary’s, I saw first-hand how important the Friends of St. Mary’s are and was a frequent visitor to the shop so when I saw an advert for new Trustees jumped at the chance to be part of and contribute to such a worthwhile Charity.

My husband was born on the Isle of Wight, and we were both delighted to be able to be able to move here when I took up the role at the Isle of Wight Trust, having sailed to and round the Island on many an occasion. Now happily retired, I love being on and by the sea, walking our dog, sewing, reading and spending time with our grandchildren who love coming to visit.

The charity would not exist without the volunteers who run the shop and take the trolley round the wards, making a huge difference to patients and staff in the hospital. The funds raised ensure we can continue to provide vital equipment to enhance the many services provided on the Island and support the NHS staff in the amazing work they do.
