Friends of St Mary’s Hospital are delighted to have funded £6778.00 for 2 x Lento Care Chairs - Tilt in Space
Standard NHS chairs do not provide the significant benefits that can be obtained by using these chairs and getting people out of bed for the first time in months if they have been unable to sit up independently provides a phenomenal mental boost for them.
Tilt in space chairs are designed specifically to assist patients with limited sitting balance by promoting good posture and preventing patients from sliding forwards. This chair provides pressure relief by redistributing the user’s body weight over a larger surface area, helping to prevent pressure sores. It allows the user’s legs to be safely raised above their hips, improving circulation and reducing any swelling in the legs. The back rest has an adjustable back angle can help to maximise the swallow potential for users with swallowing difficulties.
The chairs are unique in their adjustability and come with 5 different adjustments as standard. These are seat width, seat depth, seat height, arm height and back height, which means they are suitable for over 85% of patients within the hospital.
Fiona Bannister - Physiotherapy Assistant let all at the Friends know:
“We are very grateful to have supportive chairs on the ward, they are used for patients with poor trunk control who would be unsafe sitting in a standard armchair. For example, patients who have poor sitting balance due to previous stroke.
Many patients from Intensive care have also benefitted from these chairs in their early stages of recovery on the ward.
And those with dementia often seem more settled when well supported in a chair.”
