Friends Fund £119.00 for Light Projector in Ultrasound, Diagnostic Imaging

The mood light projectors are in the ultrasound rooms and assist as the main lights must be switched off during the ultrasound and some patients find it too dark. The projection goes onto the ceiling and is a distraction for patients to look at whilst having their ultrasound. This is particularly useful for paediatrics and dementia patients.

Rebecca Egerton (Sonographer) let us know:

I applied for funding from the Friends of St Mary’s Hospital for five galaxy light projectors in October 2023.

This was after positive comments from patients when I brought a projector into work for performing Paediatric Ultrasound. I thought it would help to calm the children whilst I performed their Ultrasound scan if they had something interesting to look at and as we have to work in a darkened room they are very effective.

We found that not only children but also patients with dementia and nervous patients also benefited from the relaxing mood lighting.

Since installing the lights in all of our Ultrasound rooms not a day goes by where we don't get positive feedback regarding the lights and other departments such as Breast Screening have also expressed an interest in getting one.

I would just like to thank The Friends again for making this possible.
