FRIENDS FUND LATEST AID FOR BLOOD FLOW MONITORING

Hand-held equipment that uses high frequency sound to relay the strength or existence of arterial blood flow has been purchased by the Friends for the hospital’s Outpatients Department. Costing £845, the Huntleigh Vascular Doppler is being used in clinics where patients are mainly elderly, frail and poorly. It makes the time doctors spend examining patients shorter and more resourceful, not only improving patient experience but also enhancing treatment options. Vascular surgeon, Stephen Baxter, said: “The equipment is absolutely essential for our clinics. We have an older one, but it is technically outdated now.” The latest doppler is also a welcome addition for the mainland vascular team during their visits to the department’s specialist clinics, for the purpose of reviewing patient treatment.
