Introducing Another Wonderful Friends Volunteer
For Nancy Allen (pictured) the NHS is very much a give and take experience. As well as receiving treatment at St Mary’s Laidlaw Day Centre she also attends there on Mondays as a volunteer in the Friends shop/cafe. “Although I have volunteered in the foyer’s shop/café I prefer Laidlaw,” she said. “It’s like a little family here, seeing the same people attending for infusions and physiotherapy. I have been a volunteer for four years now, and just love it.” After recalling she was also a Friends volunteer at the Ryde Health and Well-Being Centre on Tuesdays, she explained: “I just wanted to give something back for the care I have received.” Wednesdays, too, are taken up with volunteering—this time supporting adults with learning disabilities in Ryde.
