A quieter and kinder machine for removing plaster has been bought by the Friends for the Out Patients and Fracture Clinic.
Thanking the Friends for providing the £1,029, Lead Nurse Derryn Taylor said the older and noisier desoutter oscillation machines for removing plaster casts can make patients, especially children, frightened and distressed. “Despite the fact the saw blade doesn’t actually rotate, but oscillates, no amount of reassurance will convince patients we will not hurt them. “The new machine makes nurses’ jobs easier, but primarily it helps our young and anxious patients.”
