One of our amazing volunteers.
LYN IS A WEDNESDAY VOLUNTEER After retiring as a receptionist at a Newport GP surgery Lyn Govett become a Friends volunteer. “It was Dawn Burrow who suggested it, and like her I come into the Foyer on Wednesdays,” she said. “As well as working there, I do the afternoon round of the wards with the trolley. Such good fun! It’s also good to see patients from my old surgery days.” Lyn learned to handle cash at a young age. Like so many local teenagers still at school, Lyn had a Saturday job in Newport’s former Woolworths store. Despite the obvious temptation when manning the sweet counter, she never helped herself to free samples! A particularly fond memory of Lyn as a Friends volunteer was helping to do the trolley round on Christmas Day last year, when small free gifts were distributed to patients and staff. “And I hope to be part of it this Christmas, too.” Although husband Colin is not a volunteer he had helped when she was involved in the shop’s stocktaking. “He also cooks the dinner every Wednesday so that it is ready for me when I arrive home.”
