Appley Ward now have a versatile chair

An extremely versatile battery-charged intensive chair is now proving to be a valuable addition to equipment in the hospital’s Appley Ward, as a result of a £5,000 grant from the Friends. The chair can be lowered to enable it to be converted into a trolley, allowing nursing staff to roll a patient out of a bed onto the trolley without the need for a hoist. The chair not only speeds up the recovery and independence of patients, but also makes it easier for nurses and physiotherapists to position patients. “This is so much safer and more comfortable for the patient,” said Ward Sister Jo Payne. “It is also ideal for respiratory patients who often will not sleep in the bed, and can instead sleep in the chair. “A wonderful piece of equipment.”
