Friends fund Teaching Aids for Mothers and Children
Promotional material for teaching parents about breast feeding and young children about dental hygiene are now in use in the Health Visiting and School Nursing department. Regarding breast-feeding, Andrea Bevan stressed the need to address the problem of low rates of breast-feeding on the Island. “We are already teaching breast-feeding in our ante-natal classes, and the visual aids will support this. “And with reference to the school nurse material, the ‘clean-mouth, dirty mouth’ material will be used to promote dental hygiene in schools.” The material purchased by the Friends has been divided between the department’s three Island bases — in Newport, Ryde and Sandown. With some of the teaching aids, including a larger than life set of teeth, are Health Visitor, Michelle Manders (left) and Senior Support Worker, Karen Grey.
