Young Sophie Walks Tall for Hospital Charity

Young Sophie Walks Tall for Hospital Charity

Ten-year-old Sophie Frost, who last October undertook a sponsored walk in aid of the Friends of St Mary’s Hospital, has now presented a cheque to the charity for her efforts – amounting to £310.

The walk covered 11 miles from her home in Lake to the hospital, via the cycle track. She was accompanied by her grandfather, Peter Warren. Sophie’s offer to do the walk came when she learned of the Friends work from her grandmother, Rita Warren, who volunteers in the hospital’s foyer shop/café.

The £310 far exceeded Peter Warren’s original estimate that the walk would raise £120.

Receiving the donation, Friends chairman Leslie Myland promised Sophie she would be consulted over which worthy project should benefit from the money.

The cheque handover took place in the foyer shop at the hospital. Also pictured with Sophie is Lesley Myland and a Friends volunteer, Stuart Bunyon.
