Versatile chairs brought for stroke unit

In the 2015 Friends Fund application process the Friends came to the aid of the Stroke Unit, keen to increase the number of special chairs for newly admitted patients . Sister of the unit, Georgina Littlejohn, said, “These chairs enable stroke patients to sit out from their beds at a very early stage in the recovery process, with the chairs providing extra sup-port. “The chairs are also very versatile. They can be wheeled about, including to the unit’s gym.” She said the two chairs the Friends purchased, at a total cost of £6,432, have brought the number in the unit to five. “And we need them all from time to time” Georgina and one of the new chairs is pictured with Friends volunteer, Maralyn Verstraeten.
